In addition to functional demands, children’s eyeglasses are always fun, durable and safe. Although the eyeglass styles worn by adults may be significantly different, some children like those styles. Those adults-oriented designs such as elongated rectangular shapes, small, retro-styled oval frames and even titanium frames are available for children now.

Another important factor that affects the eyeglasses selection of children is the popular character effect. Eyeglasses worn by cartoon characters in television have attracted a large number of kids. SpongeBob SquarePants frames and Blue’s Clues styles are two of those successful examples. Movies and books can also play their roles in attracting young children in eyeglasses choosing. Harry Potter is one of the most outstanding examples. Older children may like eyeglasses with trendy brands and logos worn by their favorite sports heroes or singers.

While most kids have specific tastes about eyeglasses colors and brands, durability features such as spring hinges and flexible materials are helpful for mischievous children. Spring hinges allow the temples to bend in both directions and flexible frame materials such as polycarbonate offer the best protection to children. Polycarbonate lenses are lighter and more impact-resistant. In addition, thinner, lighter and stronger materials such as stainless steel and titanium are also gaining popularity. Besides new designs, manufacturers also offer extended warranties on children’s eyeglasses.

Conventional designer eyeglasses are now available for children with a size adjustment. Older kids opt to choose branded or licensed eyeglasses such as X-Games, Nike and Converse, while Puppies, Stride Rite and Disney are popular among children at all ages. Due to children’s fragile eyes, UV protection is one of the most important factors of children’s sunglasses. Both traditional sunglasses and photochromic lenses aim at blocking out as much as harmful UV rays from sunlight. Clip-on sunglasses are another convenient option.
