Details of a visual field test

Some patients with vision problems may have heard of visual field test, which may be called other names such as automated Perimetry, threshold test, SITA and so on. Performed probably for different reasons, the most purpose of a visual field test is to detect or diagnose glaucoma. In the early days, doctors used a tangent screen on the wall to conduct such a test. And later, a manual version of device called the Goldmann Bowl Perimeter was used. Four types of visual field testing methods

Also called side vision, one people’s full horizontal and vertical vision range can be determined by a visual field test, which also detects potential blind spots in the visual field. Some eye and brain disorders are responsible for these visual field defects. Glaucoma, toxic exposure and retina damage can cause optic nerve damage and blind spots. Brain strokes and tumors may also affect the visual field.
